Position Summary 

Bio-Pharma Searches, Inc. is working closely with one of the world’s most innovative pharmaceutical companies to find a finance director with solid experience in building a team focused on financial services and control throughout Latin America.  The Finance Shared Services Director – Latin America will lead the companies finance shared service center for Latin America based in Miami, with responsibility for accounting and internal reporting, finance policy and controls, finance shared services (accounts payable and payroll), procurement and taxation.  The role will also ensure appropriate financial controls and compliance throughout the Latin America region, including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.

This role will be a key leader in headquarters in Miami, as well as in the broader accounting and finance organization.  We are seeking an individual with a solid record of contributions leading to improved financial performance, heightened productivity and enhanced internal controls.

This role will require interactions throughout the organization including the Chief Accounting Officer, Latam Senior Director Finance, Regional Head of Latin America, country managers, as well as other senior leadership in Latin America.

The individual will report to the Senior Director Finance Latam and will functionally report to the Corporate Chief Accounting Officer in our US corporate headquarters.

Accounting and Reporting

  • Oversee monthly financial close process for all Latin America legal entities and Miami Regional office, including adherence to Corporate closing calendar, detailed review of balance sheet and income statements, revenue recognition, and other local activities.
  • Implement in-house SAP system and BlackLine account reconciliation tool for all Latin America legal entities.
  • Ensure compliance with Corporate standards and seek improvement opportunities that enhance efficiency and effectiveness over financial reporting.

Finance Policy and Controls

  • Support compliance with accounting standards and policies, as well as compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Perform SOX controls for the region
  • Manage implementation of accounting and finance policies within Latin America.
  • Oversee internal and external audits including the preparation of audit schedules and auditor requests.

Financial Operations and Shared Services

  • Ensure efficient and effective processing of requisition to pay and payroll for the region through combination of onshore and offshore teams
  • Support implementation of enabling technologies (SAP, Concur, e-requisition, e-payables) within the Latin America region
  • Support Global Procurement team within region, ensuring operational and strategic sourcing activities are efficient and in compliance with internal purchasing policies and procedures
  • Work with global treasury team to ensure appropriate funding of legal entities through forecast and management of cash flows and banking relationships in region.  Procure local banking products and services to support business activities and oversee activities in local bank accounts

Taxation

  • Oversee all tax matters throughout the region including working with the Tax team and our external tax advisors, addressing corporate tax inquiries, assisting in the preparation of tax provision packages and other matters.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives around tax compliance, tax provision and tax planning activities.
  • Lead reoccurring meetings with the Tax team to provide overview of Latin America tax landscape and address any issues or concerns in the region.
  • Coordination with the Tax team in active management of the transfer pricing structure in the region, including monthly reviews to ensure appropriate profitability by legal entity.
  • Lead Latin America finance organization to evaluate and implement where necessary, additional legal entities, including legal, accounting, banking and financial systems and infrastructure to support growing organization.

People

  • Manage a local team to support Latin America region
  • Develop team to support region, as well as for rotational programs through the finance team

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in a combination of public accounting and/or private industry is required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP rules is required
  • Experience with regional accounting and/or shared services in Latin America required
  • Must speak and write fluent Spanish; Portuguese skills also a significant plus
  • 15% – 20% travel required

Education

  • B.S. required
  • Master’s Degree (MBA) preferred. BS with specialization in Finance & Administration is preferred.
