Position Summary

The VP, Medical Affairs Americas (US and LATM) will provide leadership and strategic planning for all Medical Affairs activities throughout the Americas including, but not limited leadership of the country based Medical Directors, filed MSL teams in support of all therapeutic areas, medical education and digital media.

Principal Responsibilities

Lead and direct the Americas medical affairs team and country based medical directors in support of all therapeutic areas

  • Ensure the development and execution of Americas Medical Affairs Plans in support of best clinical practices and overall corporate objectives aligned with Global Medical Affairs plans and commercial Brand strategy
  • Provide medical leadership, insight and strategy to all activities, collaborating across functions to ensure the highest level of medical education for all employees that maximize patient outcomes
  • Provide medical input to the development of impactful scientific and medical education
  • Lead the implementation of medical affairs practices to assess new indications, the treating community, patient pathways, identifying patients for clinical research and to develop a thorough understanding of the disease area
  • Support cross-functional teams to ensure patient-focused activities at all times, including rapid responses to internal and external requests for support to all stakeholders
  • Engage effectively cross-functionally, maximizing functional reporting relationships, and ensuring a successful implementation of strategy.
  • Initiate and support medical education activities, such as advisory boards, congress symposia, speaker development programs and other professional organizations
  • Support reimbursement applications, ensuring knowledge of processes, development of appropriate medical materials and supportive documents and provision of medical expertise as required

Demonstrate the appropriate leadership, direction and accountability for:

  • Developing and continuously maintaining the highest scientific and medical expertise of all Medical Affairs employees ensuring employees are acknowledged internally and externally as experts
  • Establish and implement medical education practices in support of internal and external medical training on all therapeutic areas
  • Establish and align a digital media strategy that supports all therapeutic areas
  • Prioritizing people development by establishing development opportunities for team members through implementation of development plans, training opportunities and relevant on the job challenges
  • Develop effective team communication, analysis and documentation of performance of medical affairs activities and knowledge through the application of appropriate governance, reporting systems and structures.
  • Systematically assess medical education needs cross functionally and implement appropriate medical education programs for commercial teams and other functions

Qualifications

  • Experience leading Medical Affairs function
  • Strong people management and leadership skills acquired in a multicultural environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal mandatory.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Extensive regulatory and compliance experience leading a global MA organization
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated track record and ability to drive results as an effective a team member and project leader
  • Previous Clinical Operations experience (design and implementation of clinical trials)
  • Proven ability to manage budget and resources
  • Strong business acumen
  • Ability to build partnership access between HQ and affiliates
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, and negotiating skills
  • Must demonstrate an energy and enthusiasm which brings a positive approach to all challenges Sense of ethics and responsibility
  • Travel required up to 25%

Education

  • Must have a doctorate level degree or equivalent
  • 10 years + experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry
